CLASSES

Flagstaff Belly Dance is a Partner Studio of Fat Chance Belly Dance® (FCBD). Our classes follow the curriculum developed by Carolena Nericcio. FCBD style—as this dance form is known—is a non-verbal language where the vocabulary consists of the moves, the ques act as punctuation, and the formations serve as grammar. By learning this language, a group of dancers can improvise and create art "on the fly"... and in the process have a great deal of fun!

LEVEL ONE

Dance Fundamentals

You'll be dancing in your very first class! Experience the magic Fat Chance Belly Dance® style while learning  how to use the basic steps to dance in duet, trio and quartet formations. Level 1 is a six-week series. Please plan on attending each class. If you must miss a class please schedule a makeup during the week you missed . No previous dance experience is necessary and all shapes, sizes and abilities are welcome!

What's Needed

Wear clothes that do not restrict your movements in any way. Clothing can be fitted and stretchy or loose and comfortable. Dance shoes are nice, but bare feet are traditional. Make your feet happy! Please wear your hair up so that your posture is visible. Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated. If you choose to wear a hip scarf to accentuate your movements, please select a quiet one. A pen and a notebook are useful, as well as a dance bag to keep everything collected.

LEVEL TWO

Dance Combinations

After you get acquainted with the Fat Chance Belly Dance® Fundamentals style in Level 1, it's time to build up your movement vocabulary with Fat Chance Belly Dance® Combinations. In this 12-week course, you'll learn a new step each week and challenge yourself with teacher-guided combinations in duet, trio and quartet formations. Learning is maximized by taking a Level 1 class followed by a Level 2 class. Most FCBD-style dancers take Level 1 classes throughout their dance careers. Every FCBD student must complete one 6-week course of Level 1 Fundamentals before taking Level 2.
